708 N President St. Wheaton, IL, 60187 - Coming Soon REO In Historic District
Wheaton is not an area I typically sell homes in but when my REO connection asked me if I could I was excited to see this home was in the Historic District of Wheaton very close to Wheaton College.
The home was built in 1927 and is a 4 bedroom home with 2 full baths and a powder room and a 2 car detached garage. I will be posting a full description of the home when it has been listed and is for sale but wanted to tell you this home has caused me a little stress already.
Wheaton is 45 minutes down I 355 for me from Barrington, not exactly a quick hop but I like selling single family bank owned homes and the price was likely enough to compensate for the extra gas cost and time driving back and forth.
I visited on Thursday to access and secure the home, knowing that it is vacant. I met a locksmith on site who came to collect his $29.00 call out fee and tell me my bill to change the locks was going to be $500 and if I could just wait around for 6 hours he would have it all done for me. Good grief I am in the wrong business and of course I have all day to wait!
After taking an enormous swallow, because that was more than double my authorized allowance, I paid him the $29.00 and let him leave. While my mind is working overtime, I thought I might as well get the exterior inspection and photos done.
It is a shame the trees are not greening up yet because this house and the street is a glorious tree lined avenue of historic homes in the Northside of Wheaton town and is highly sought after.
The home is in good shape and I am organizing a trash out, and clean to spruce the place up a little, ready for buyers. I have asked for a few repairs to be done. In addition to the 4 upstairs bedrooms there is a fully finished basement for 2 more bedrooms. But back to my access.I leave for home and call my REO contact and come up with a much cheaper plan to get these locks changed. Gosh my local Home Depot rekeyed 4 brand new locks free so my total cost is $40 and a husband to come with me Saturday morning to change them. We get in, take photos, measure and prepare for the MLS listing and get bids for the small repairs and clean up. I am home by lunch and whereas Thursday felt like a colossal waste of my time, Saturday was both much cheaper and I achieved so much more. Here is a photo of the formal living room complete with fireplace and bookshelves. More to come soon!
